While we Indians had to feast our eyes on K-Dramas through the mainstream portals like Viki, Dramacool for all these years, many of us had our hopes pinned on the day K-Dramas would be finally broadcasted on our local networks too! This cosmic attention to K-Dramas by India’s millennials in recent years has drawn “Descendants of The Sun” on its way to the Indian shores; this time through the local channel “Zing”.

The reception of international dramas from countries like Korea, China, Japan was never been experienced by the small but vigorous Indian Hallyu-swayed fans until 2017 when India’s Zee Zindagi Channel announced the broadcasting of “Descendants of the Sun (DOTS)” – a South Korean television drama starring megastars Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo.
In 2020, in response to increased adoration of K-Dramas among the Indian youth (thanks to the huge accessibility to the flourishing OTT platforms), provider Dish TV India Ltd announced the launch of their brand new tendering, ‘Korean Drama Active’, which would be available on DishTV and D2H platforms: giving users access to exclusive K-dramas on Indian television dubbed into the Hindi language.
“Korean content was initially viewed by people in states such as Manipur, Mizoram, and Nagaland, but post the covid lockdown, we’ve seen its consumption grow across households,” Sugato Banerji, corporate head, marketing, D2H, Dish TV India Ltd.
3 years later, in 2021 Desi Hallyu fans are up for another treat of watching a K-Drama on Indian Television – this time credited to the Indian channel ‘Zing’. The local network has confirmed that “Descendants of the Sun” will be airing from 29th March, Monday to Friday every day at 2 PM. On March 16, they released the trailer video on their YouTube channel confirming the starting dates of this highly acclaimed South Korean Drama.
