Epik High is a South Korean alternative hip hop group from Seoul, composed of Tablo, Mithra Jin, and DJ Tukutz. They formed in 2001 and the group made their beginnings in the underground hip hop scene in Seoul. In 2003 under Woolim entertainment they released their debut album. After leaving Woolim Entertainment Epik High founded their independent label, Map the Soul. They also worked as artists of YG entertainment for seven years before going independent. They now partner with William Morris Endeavor and EN Management for managing their overseas activities and tours.

TABLO (‎Lee Seon-woong/ Daniel Armand Lee)

Birth Date: 22 July 1980

Position: Leader, Rapper, Songwriter, Producer, and Lyricist

TMI: Tablo has lived in Switzerland, Hong Kong, Canada, Indonesia, and South Korea when he was a kid as his family kept moving due to his father’s job.

Tablo started playing piano at the age of six but later switched to the violin, which he played for 10 years.

Tablo wrote the lyrics to legendary singer Kim Gun-mo’s song “Rainy Christmas” when he was sixteen years old.

Has made a cameo in Lee Hyori’s “10 Minutes” music video.

He has a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature, a Master’s Degree in Creative Writing from Stanford University.

While he was at Stanford, Tablo associated with an underground hip hop group, 4n Objectz

Tablo has published a book entitled “Pieces of You” and Blonote in both Korean and English, which became a bestseller.

During Epik High’s tenure at Woolim Entertainment, they helped produce the K-pop boy band INFINITE. Tablo and Mithra both wrote lyrics for the band’s debut mini-album, First Invasion.

He also had a radio show, MBC FM4U’s “Tablo’s Dreaming Radio”

Tablo married Korean actress Kang Hye-Jung and has a daughter.

Tablo and his daughter were part of the cast of the popular reality-variety show “The Return of Superman”.

He is the founder of independent music label HIGHGRND (High Ground), which housed bands Hyukoh and The Black Skirts.

 He made his acting debut in the TV show Nonstop (2005) and has also acted in other TV shows such as High Kick, Woman of Matchless Beauty.

He was the producer and judge in the popular rap competition TV show “ Show me the Money” 3&4.

His debut solo album, Fever’s End, was released in 2011.

His song “Bad” from Fever’s End, was nominated for “Best Rap Performance”  in Mnet Asian Music Awards.

Outside of Epik High, Tablo is a record producer and songwriter for other artists and is involved in collaborative projects.

He has a podcast titled “The Tablo Podcast” which is produced by DIVE Studios.

DJ TUKUTZ(Kim Jung Sik)

Birth Date : November 19, 1981

Position: DJ, Producer, Turntablist, Engineer, and Dancer.

TMI: He first got into DJ-ing in the summer of 1995 by spinning records at local raves and warehouse parties in Japan.

His nicknames are Street T, DJ Carrot

He teamed up with Tablo and went to the U.S with him, where he DJ-ed on radio shows, live events, and clubs around the Boston and New York City area.

 Has made a cameo in Lee Hyori’s “10 Minutes” music video.

He played concerts as DJ Sukutz for a month following a funny incident in the FM radio show “Cultwo Show”

He is also married and has two kids.

He looks after the finances of the group.

He had been scouted by SM entertainment as a young boy.

He worked part-time at a karaoke

  • Swan Songs was intended to be Epik High’s final album, following the poor performance of their previous two releases; however, it became a mainstream hit and made them one of the most popular hip hop groups in Korea. The album was a chart success with the title track, “Fly”, reaching number one on domestic charts
  • “Fly” was featured on the soundtracks for FIFA 07 and Pump It Up.
  • In April 2016, they became the second-ever Korean artists to perform at the Coachella music festival and were invited to perform for the April 2020 Coachella music festival as well and thus will be the first Korean artist to perform twice at Coachella
  • In March 2015, The group joined the massive lineup of SXSW’s musical acts in Austin.
