We all love a cliche-filled romantic K-drama, where the two leads fall in love and the villain in their lives is the rich guy’s mother, but in recent years we’ve seen some dramas with much more substance than just that. Today I’m going to walk you through some of those but *will get your adrenalin pumping* dramas.

Ps. For entertainment purposes ONLY,  here are some Bollywood dialogues that represent these shows pretty aptly 😉

#1 The World of the married (부부의 세계)

Trigger warning: violence and abuse
JTBC’s The world of the married is based on the English drama series Doctor Foster. Now, if you want to watch something that will twist your stomach and make you want to pull your hair out, THIS is the show for you. Highly engaging with it’s powerful and messed up characters it is a show that will keep you thinking. There are no slow burns in this world, the crazies begin right at the start. The cast has delivered top-notch performances making you hate and feel pity for them at the same time.

Dialogue: Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

#2 Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (달의 연인 – 보보경심 려)

Alright yes, this show came out way back in 2016, but everybody’s got to see this melodrama! It’s romantic, gory, melancholic, funny and most of all hella entertaining all at once. Let’s not forget the amazingly high profile cast. IU, the leading lady with Lee Joon Gi, Kang Ha Neul, Nam Joo Hyuk, Exo’s Baekhyun and more! Second lead syndrome, what is that? We know only eight leads syndrome. Yes, this show is a fantasy saeguk (Historical Drama), but you will not want to leave till your done. Watched it already, this is a good time to rewatch this show to keep you distracted throughout the day.

Dialogue: Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

#3 Itaewon Class (이태원 클라쓰)

Park Seo Jun’s first drama after military enlistment was the talk of the town for many reasons – great cast, diverse characters, fancy outfits, webtoon based storyline and a high viewership rating. This show has some father-child relationship goals, that everyone will feel for. A unique female lead who knows to run her mouth and pack some punches along with a very calm but vengeful male lead. All the characters are wholesome along and the cast does an amazing job leaving a mark on your brain.

Dialogue: Agneepath

#4 Be Melodramatic ( 멜로가 체질)

This show tells the story of 3 best friends in their 30s. They live in a house together along with one of their gay brothers and another one’s child. Each protagonist has their demons to fight. It’s a script that is compelling in a subtle way. The main lead writes scripts for dramas and this show brings a humorous take on the crazy world of Korean entertainment. It’s got a lot of pointers on life and is a relaxed watch infused with a bit of sadness. Overall the show has some very realistic scenarios and relatable characters.
Ps. If you watch this show, you are not coming out without being stuck with ‘your shampoo scent in the flowers’

Dialogue: Aisha

#5 Hospital Playlist  (슬기로운 의사생활)

THE slice- of -life TV show you want to be watching right now. Boasting of a fantastically charming cast paired with a pleasant yet captivating storyline, this show does not disappoint. There’s a calm while watching this show but there’s a storm of emotions when you’re done with each episode. This story majorly revolves around friendships and reliability of humans on social interaction. The show, unfortunately, has only twelve episodes out of which two are yet to release and I can not wait to see how it will end.

Dialogue: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

We hope you’re doing well through these tumulous times. Let’s wash our hands, stay home and stay safe.
