“Parasite” the Palme d’Or and Golden Globe Award-winning South Korean movie directed by Bong Joon-Ho is going to be screened at 15 different cities in India on the 31st of January, 2020.

PARASITE has been brought to India by Ashwani Sharma of Impact Films – a leading Distributor of Foreign Language films in the Indian sub-continent. According to him, “PARASITE is a rare film which switches genres from comedy to thriller to horror so swiftly that one undergoes a plethora of emotions in two hours. It is a complete film curriculum in itself.”

He adds, “PARASITE is the first foreign-language film which is being theatrically released in regular shows in 15 Indian cities across different exhibitors and will be the widest release of any foreign language film in India. It is not a film to be watched on laptops or small screens
but must be savoured through collective viewing on big screens.” A wildly entertaining
masterpiece, PARASITE should not be missed.

Mr. Ashwani also shares his thoughts with KPOP High India saying:

I also expect to reach several thousand Korean families staying in metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, etc and convince them to come out of their homes and watch ‘PARASITE’ only in theatres.

I am aiming to make this worldwide hit Korean film as much accessible to Indian audiences as much as possible. Our target is English Films audiences who are ready to watch any good film irrespective of its language.

I am very excited to release this Korean film as it has already captured the hearts of millions of audiences all across the world and there is no reason why it will not be a success out here.”

Oscar Favorite PARASITE to release pan-India on 31st January

South Korea’s worldwide sensational film PARASITE which was recently nominated in the Best Film and Best Director categories at the Academy Awards 2020 will release in India on 31st January 2020. This family comedy/thriller has been carrying an unprecedented buzz since its release and more so after it won the Palme D’Or at Cannes 2019, and has already been declared as Film of The Decade. PARASITE has been written and directed by the renowned South Korean auteur Bong Joon Ho who has already given Hollywood hits like Snowpiercer, Host, Memories of Murder, Mother and Okja in the past.

Parasite is a case study in all the departments of film making and one needs to watch the film to understand that. Whether it’s acting, art direction, production design, cinematography or montage, the film is textbook material. The film has been shot on the meticulously erected set of the Park House where most of the story takes place. It is a rare film that critics have consensus on; it has been declared the highest-rated film of the year and Top Feature Film and Comedy of the Decade. PARASITE has won the Best Film from several Critics Associations all over the world and won Best Foreign Film and Best Director by Critics Choice Awards 2020. It has a Certified Rating of 99% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes till now.

New York Times hails Parasite as the “MOVIE of the Year” and Bong Joon Ho “Filmmaker
of the Century” Jessica Kang of Variety says that, “Bong is back and on brilliant form, but he is unmistakably, roaringly furious and it registers because the target is so deserving, so enormous. Parasite is a tick fat with the bitter blood of class rage”.

Bong created history when Parasite won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film recently, where it was also nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay. It is also the first South Korean film to get nominated for Best Film and Best Director at the upcoming 92nd Academy Awards (on February 9). It has also been nominated for Best International Film, Best Production Design, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing at the Academy Awards thus totaling six nominations in all.

The film’s awards winning journey began in May last at Cannes Film Festival where it bagged the Palme D’Or and registered South Korea’s first-ever win at the prestigious festival. It went on to win at several platforms worldwide for Best Picture and Best Director including at the Asia-Pacific Screen Awards, the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Awards (AACTA); Sydney Film Festival and scores of others, totaling a whopping 137 wins till now. While accepting the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film Bong said, “Once you overcome the 1-inch tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films”.

Director: Bong Joon Ho

Bong is one of the rare directors to get nominated in Directors Guild of America, Producers Guild of America and Writers Guild of America for this outstanding film. Getting nominated in all the three reputed guilds has always resulted in Oscar glory for several directors in the past. PARASITE has received nominations in several categories at the BAFTAs too.

Parasite tells the story of unemployed Kim Ki-taek (played by Song Kang-ho) and his family who by impersonating themselves grab an opportunity to work with the wealthy and affluent Park family. The film unravels how their lives get entangled, with funny and disastrous consequences. It’s a unique take on class divide and social inequality with a truly universal appeal which is resonating with audiences across the globe.

The film stars Bong’s favourite actor and superstar of South Korean cinema Song Kang-ho who for his portrayal as Ki-taek has won the Excellence Award at Locarno International Film Festival 2019 and the Best Actor at Director’s Cut Awards and has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor at several other festivals. The ensemble cast also includes Lee Sun-kyun, Jo Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo- shik and Park So-dam.
