The year 2k19 is coming to an end and so are the epic releases that stole hearts and made all cry! Whether it was with their heartwarming emotional scenes or with the hilarious, rib-tickling scenes, these movies offered their viewers more than just mere entertainment, they offered them a way of life, an outlook of the realities they live.

Here is a list of our top picks from this year’s movie releases, ranging from romance to documentaries to comedy to action and many more.

NOTE: They are arranged in no particular order. This is because of the fact that they all belong to different genres and so are difficult to compare to each other as they all serve different moods and temperaments of different people.

KOREAN NAME: 러브 유어셀프 인 서울 (Leobeu Yueoselpeu in Seoul) | STARRING: Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon  Jungkook | GENRE: Documentary, Musical, Concert

This concert film has scenes from the August 26, 2018 show of the band’s Love Yourself Tour at Seoul Olympic Stadium in Seoul, South Korea. It was released for ONLY one day all over. The world but due to popular demand and the power of the ARMYs, it re-entered cinemas again 😉

The whole documentary of BTS’s concert makes the viewers feel like they are a part of the purple ocean; a part of the lucky ARMYs that do get to see Bangtan live in their own countries and cities.

I would bet anything that you won’t be able to sit still and would surely get up, start singing along at the top of your voice, fan-chanting with the ARMYs in the movie and dancing to the songs being performed * especially Anpanman, nobody and I mean absolutely nobody can sit still when Anpanman comes on 😉 *

So if you love BTS as much as any other ARMY, this is “THE MOVIE” for you!

KOREAN NAME: 극한직업 (Geukhanjikeob) | STARRING: Ryu Seung-ryong, Lee Hanee, Jin Seon-kyu, Lee Dong-hwi, Gong Myung | GENRE: Crime, Action, Comedy

With the most amazing and simple plot that betrays the hilarious moments of the movie, the movie already captures the attention of its viewers.

If I have to choose the cast for this movie again, I honestly wouldn’t change a single thing about it. The comedy element of the movie is brought by the quirky characters of the story enacted perfectly by all of the cast.

The fried chicken restaurant run by the characters when they are undercover and the visual cinematic aesthetics of the mouthwatering chicken will definitely make you crave for fried chicken as well 😉

My favourite action-comedy movie of 2k19 for sure!

KOREAN NAME: 기생충 (Gisaengchung) | STARRING: Song Kang-ho, Lee Sun-kyun, Cho Yeo-jeong, Choi Woo-shik, Park So-dam | GENRE: Drama, Family

The first Korean film to win the Palme d’Or and tweeted about by King of Bollywood, SRK as a ‘delightfully discomforting movie’ he enjoyed watching, Parasite blends a con-man story with a tale of suspense, to uproarious and enlightening effect and so is a brilliant and powerfully revealing social satire directed by South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho.

It is a movie that catches your attention from the very beginning and its grip on your mind doesn’t falter even after the last scene is over. It is a movie which is full of small surprises and big shocks. It will make you think about the parasitic nature of materialistic hope that all humans feed off of and make you question your everyday routine lives.

Time to contemplate the things we deemed unimportant in the past!

KOREAN NAME: 사자 (Saja) | STARRING: Park Seo-joon, Ahn Sung-ki, Woo Do-hwan  | GENRE: Fantasy, Mystery, Thriller

If your forever love is watching a movie which interweaves two parallel worlds- the modern 21st-century world with that of the supernatural, this movie will surely tickle your fancy 😉

The plot revolves around a central character, a champion MMA fighter who after waking up from a nightmare, finds mysterious wounds on his body. The search for the cure of this mystery leads him to the discovery of a world that co-exists with ours. This world belongs to the supernatural beings where all the evil forces are ready to corrupt the souls of mankind and only true faith in the Almighty can cleanse and save us.

An emotional and thrilling movie with a moral message that we should always believe and trust in the Almighty even though sometimes we might not understand his ways and deem them unjust.

The movie is also supported and enhanced by the flawless acting of all actors, especially the main lead- Park Seo-joon and a minor character but the most memorable one, a “Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka”- Jung Ji Hoon whose ‘possessed by spirits child role’ seemed so realistic it gave me goosebumps.

KOREAN NAME: 내안의 그놈 (Naean-ui Geunom) | STARRING: Park Sung-woong, Jung Jin-young, Ra Mi-ran | GENRE: Fantasy, Comedy

One of the best Body Swap movies ever!

The story follows a high school student, Dong Hyun and a member of a criminal organization, Pan Soo who get their bodies swapped when one day, Dong Hyun falls from the rooftop and falls on top of Pan Soo. When the gangster finally wakes up in the hospital, he finds himself in the body of a teenager and hence begins the awesome journey, a perfect blend of romance, comedy and action.

The light-heartedness of the movie makes the viewer feel joy and relaxation at the same time and the interesting personalities of the characters just make the movie even more interesting.

The action scenes are also clear-cut and perfectly timed, with just the right amount of action to fit in with the ‘happy family theme’ of the movie.

A must watch to uplift your mood and feel refreshed 🙂

KOREAN NAME: 뺑반 (Bbaengban) | STARRING: Gong Hyo-jin, Jo Jung-suk, Ryu Jun-yeol | GENRE: Crime, Thriller, Action

With a dope trailer and the best of the actors and actresses as cast, this action film lacks nothing!

The first thing that comes to mind when we talk about this movie are the car action scenes which were actually something never before seen at this big scale in Korean movies and yet weren’t disappointing in the least. The effects (car crashes, etc.) and cinematography were pretty good, considering how difficult it is to film such race scenes especially since it was their first.

All the actors, whether main or supporting were really good at performing their respective characters however the one who really stole the show for me was Ryu Jun-Yeol. Even though his character did, in fact, need more development, he was able to work with what he had and delivered a phenomenal performance despite it.

A true delight for all ‘action-loving’ fans who were waiting for this breakthrough in the action scenes of the Korean entertainment industry!

KOREAN NAME: 유열의 음악앨범 (Yooyeolui Eumakaelbum) | STARRING: Kim Go-eun, Jung Hae-in | GENRE: Romance

This is a story about two lovers that met at a bakery store for the first time but are unable to have “their moments” as fate keeps trying to break them apart.

With a storyline that transcends a particular time frame, a cute couple of lead actors but a slow-developing storyline, the movie may be viewed by some as being dragging and missing that fiery moment or climax, however, the movie has its own unique gripping moments that would definitely make an impact on anybody romantic enough to watch this cute love story 🙂

Curious whether they will still be able to be together after all?

Stay tuned for this adorable love 😉
