Upcoming Korean Movies 2021

With the rising popularity of K-Dramas, many eyes have been drawn towards the Korean film industry. Several Korean titles are being remade into regional Indian languages, in addition to original movies like Parasite and Minari releasing in India. The Korean movie industry is back to filming, after a year-long pause. Here are 6 upcoming Korean films to look forward to in the latter half of 2021, especially if drama, comedy, thriller or sci-fi interest you. There is something in store for fans of every genre!


Concrete Utopia

GENRE – Thriller, Drama and Sci-fi

MAIN CAST – Lee Byung Hun, Park Bo Young and Park Seo Joon

SYNOPSIS – The film is about those who survived in a city that went to ruins after a massive earthquake destroyed all the concrete. A leader who works to protect Hwang Goong Apartments from outsiders. A salaryman who assists him and becomes increasingly bold as he encounters crises. Loosely adapted from Part 2 of the webcomic ‘Happy Boy‘ by Kim Soong Nyong.




GENRE – Comedy, Drama and Sports

SYNOPSIS – “DREAM” tells the story of a team of people tryincg out for the Homeless World Cup, an annual international soccer event. A professional soccer player on disciplinary probation after being caught up in an unexpected incident becomes the coach of a thrown-together soccer team, but as time passes, the coach comes to sincerely care for and trust in the team members, becoming a true leader.

MAIN CAST – Kim Da Mi, Jeon So Nee and Byeon Woo Seok

SYNOPSISSoulmate is a coming of age story where two friends first meet at thirteen years old and spend the course of fourteen years remaining close and sharing experiences in both friendship and romance. It is a remake of the 2016 Chinese film of the same name featuring Sandra Ma and Zhou Dongyu.


The Pirates: Goblin Flag

GENRE – Action, Adventure, Historical and Comedy

MAIN CAST – Kang Ha Neul, Han Hyo Joo, Lee Kwang Soo, Kwon Sang Woo, Chae Soo Bin and Oh Se Hun

SYNOPSIS – An action-adventure film about a sea battle between pirates, bandits and pioneers who search for a seal that disappeared in a whale attack before the founding of the Joseon Dynasty. This movie is the sequel of the 2014 film The Pirates. The Pirates: Golbin Flag also marks EXO Sehun’s debut in Korean movies.



The Witch Part 2

GENRE – Action, Suspense, Thriller, Mystery and Supernatural

MAIN CAST – Kim Da Mi, Jo Soo Min, Park Eun Bin and Jin Goo

SYNOPSIS – The events in Ja Yoon’s life continue.

Recap of Part 1: 10 years ago, Ja Yoon escaped from a government facility in the midst of an inexplicable incident by herself and lost all her memory. An old couple takes her in even though she doesn’t know her name or age. She grows up to be a bright high school student and enters a nationally televised audition program to win the top prize and help her struggling family out. As soon as she appears on TV, strange people start appearing in her life. Ja Yoon’s life falls into turmoil as they turn her seemingly ordinary life upside down in a blink of an eye.




GENRE – Drama and Sci-fi

MAIN CAST – Bae Suzy, Park Bo Gum, Choi Woo Shik, Jung Yu Mi and Rebecca Tang

SYNOPSIS – Wonderland is a simulated universe where people can reunite with their loved ones with whom they can no longer interact within the real world. Gong Yoo and Tang Wei (Rebecca Tang) will be seen in supporting roles in the film. He will play the character of a man who looks to meet his deceased wife in the virtual world.
