Let’s check out these and all the others that greeted us this week and became our favorites!

K-HipHop:

  • Paloalto, Khundi Panda, SUMIN – ‘Unsung Heroes (Prod. SUMIN)’

Released on 1st March 2021 which marks the date the revolutionary ‘March 1st Movement’ of the Korean people took place, ‘Unsung Heroes’ by this powerful trio is a homage to all those unsung heroes whose brave sacrifices are not recorded in the nation’s history textbooks. Featuring an animated music video that showcases painted scenes of the Korean people and their fiery Taekwondo skills to fight oppression, Paloalto kicks off the track in his bold diction, patriotically enunciating, Palo-Alto, but my real name is Jeon Sang-Hyun/ Be proud, that’s my identity”. Khundi Panda comes up next after a short chorus by SUMIN and in his sharp, polished rap flow adds, No matter what word you put on the passion/ the hero/ Be grateful.” Hence, this is definitely a track that celebrates the Korean people’s identity using the modern and loved-by-all medium: Hiphop.

  • OLNL – ‘PAPI (Feat. Soovi)’

A rapper that most probably got to know through SMTM 777, artist OLNL has totally turned his image and even his style 180 degrees,  and this laid-back track ‘PAPI‘ is a testimonial of that change. Featuring the up-and-coming R&B soloist from Hi-Lite Records, Soovi, ‘PAPI’ shows a great contrast between the new-found bold, powerful rap flow of OLNL and Soovi’s ‘s soft, sweet-toned vocals which despite their distinctions, work well together.

  • VINXEN – ‘FLYING HIGH WITH U’

From the somber, melancholic feels of ‘SINKING DOWN WITH U’ to the pleasant, uplifting feels of the recent ‘FLYING HIGH WITH U’, we can see how far VINXEN (Lee Byung-Jae) of KIFF CLAN has come not just as an artist but as an individual as well. Switching between his auto-tuned vocals and rasp-tinted rap verses, VINXEN paints a vibrant picture of being with someone he loves, alternating presumably with scenes from his dark, past self which seemed to disappear towards the end of the track, reflecting his now, happier state.

K-R&B:

  • YONGYONG – ‘HE’S GONE (feat. Jayci Yucca)’

A solo melodic singer and rapper who has slowly and steadily made her way into the K-Music enthusiasts’ playlists, YONGYONG is back again with an easy-on-the-ears, almost pop-punk-ish kind of track titled ‘HE’S GONE’. • blurrychords – ‘Only man (Ft. TANGTHEAWESOME)’

Featuring TANGTHEAWESOME, an artist last seen in the High School Rapper Season 3 where his audition video had garnered the most interest among the public, the track ‘Only man’ starts with an eccentric, heavy melody that resonates within the listeners’ mind as  TANGTHEAWESOME sings in a high, saccharine voice of being the only man for his lover. The black and white music video accompanying the track, also hooks the listener with its unique concept, making the experience twice as much pleasing.
