2020 introduced us Indian K-Poppers to Xoe Pachuau, a new K-pop Dance Queen who won the first-ever virtual solo K-pop India Contest 2020. She’s a 23-year old K-pop lover and student from Aizawl, Mizoram who has gained a lot of inspiration from the world of K-Pop and has managed to turn it into a driving force to fuel her passion for dancing forward!
Let’s meet Xoe Pachuau, Dance Winner 2020 and a big fan of BTS, BLACKPINK, and recently, TREASURE, and get to know her journey of becoming the Winner of India K-Pop Contest 2020 🙂
KHIGH: How did you discover the K-pop world and also your amazing talent for dancing?
Xoe: I’ve known K-Pop since 2008 through friends and since then have loved it! Dancing is a hobby I had since my early years, but it was only after getting into K-Pop that my passion for dancing grew.
KHIGH: You won the first-ever virtual solo K-Pop Contest 2020 held in India. How did that make you feel? What do you think has changed since winning the Dance Category of the contest?
Xoe: Winning this contest is like a dream come true. K-Pop gave me so much energy, happiness, motivation and inspiration and it is the reason why I keep on dancing, so winning this title feels great!
After winning the contest nothing changed I guess because I’m still the same person who loves K-Pop and will continue to love it even more in the future 🙂
KHIGH: Any prior K-Pop or Dance competition experiences you have had? How do you think they contributed to your victory in the K-Pop Contest 2020?
Xoe: Yes, to be honest, I’m a part of a lot of dance crews and have participated in a lot of competitions and won a prize too. However, the one thing that gave me the best experiences has to be this contest itself! This is my fifth time (i.e. 5th year) competing in this contest and the experiences that I gathered during those all these years are what had helped me a lot in this year’s contest, both mentally and physically.

KHIGH: Was there a special reason behind your selection of the track, More & More by TWICE to perform in the finale?
Xoe: Yes, at first I was trying to cover Nct127’s Kick It because of its strong and lit choreography, and also because some of my friends recommended it a lot. But at the last minute, I changed it to Twice’s More & More since I wanted to bring out the feminine side of me and also because the choreography of the track just looked more attractive to me. I also thought that I could bring the same energy as TWICE to the stage and that’s why I chose this song.

KHIGH: Could you tell us the inspirations that drove you forward and helped you maintain the same energy and perfection, right upto the Grand Finale?
Xoe: K-Pop itself has given me a lot of inspiration in my life and dancing to K-Pop songs helps me improve my dancing skills. I also monitor myself a lot so that I can point out all the wrong movements that I made. I would also like to say thanks to my friends for always telling me what aspects I’m lacking in and what I need to focus on; it was their comments that really helped me a lot to improve as well.
KHIGH: Since you won over the whole Indian K-Pop fandom with your dance moves in the contest and still are snatching wigs with your energetic K-Pop dance covers, can we expect to see you debuting soon as an artist; maybe a K-Pop idol? What are your future plans and goals?
Xoe: I don’t think so, haha😂. My future goal, for now, is to be able to pass my upcoming exams, that’s it, hehe 😁.
KHIGH: Any message for the Indian K-Poppers who supported you? Any tips or advice for those who aspire to participate and win this contest in 2021 and the years to come?
Xoe: At first, I like to thank all the people who shared and liked my video because without their support I wouldn’t have been able to win this contest. I really appreciate it, thank you so much.
To the upcoming participants, I would like to say, practice hard, love K-Pop, and don’t ever give up, even if you’re not winning right now, because there will be a time for you to shine too 😊!
A true story of ‘Practice makes Perfect’ and ‘Never Give up Fighting for what you love’, Xoe Pachuau’s journey to getting crowned as the K-Pop Dance Winner 2020 is one that is truly inspiring and heartwarming, and is sure to shine hope on all of the young, aspiring dreamers in our Indian K-Pop fandom!
